Here is an autumn baby food recipe that is easy to prepare and perfect for the colder months:
Autumnal Pumpkin-Apple Porridge
Ingredients:
- 200 g Hokkaido pumpkin (peeled and seeded)
- 1 medium-sized apple (peeled and cored)
- 1 small potato (optional, for more filling)
- 1 teaspoon rapeseed oil or butter (for healthy fats)
- 50 ml water or breast milk/formula (depending on the desired consistency)
Preparation:
-
Prepare pumpkin and potatoes:
- Cut the pumpkin and potato into small cubes. The Hokkaido pumpkin is particularly practical because its skin becomes soft and does not need to be removed.
-
Prepare the apple:
- Also cut the apple into small pieces. Make sure that the apple is well peeled and cored to make it easy to digest.
-
Cook:
- Place the pumpkin and potato cubes in a saucepan and cover with water. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes until the vegetables are soft.
- About 5 minutes before the end of the cooking time, add the apple pieces so that they soften but still retain some of their natural sweet taste.
-
Puree:
- Drain the cooked vegetables and apple pieces, reserving some of the cooking water.
- Put everything in a blender or puree with a hand blender. Add the cooking water, breast milk or formula as needed to achieve the desired consistency.
-
Refine:
- Finally, stir 1 teaspoon of rapeseed oil or butter into the porridge to add healthy fats that are important for the baby's development.
-
Let cool and serve:
- Let the porridge cool to a comfortable temperature and serve fresh, for example in this great tableware set
Tip:
This porridge is also ideal for freezing. Simply freeze in small portions and defrost and reheat when needed.
Advantages of the recipe:
- Pumpkin: Rich in vitamins A and C as well as beta-carotene, which is good for the eyes and the immune system.
- Apple: Contains lots of fiber and natural sweetness that babies love.
- Potato: Adds extra satiety and energy to the porridge.
- Rapeseed oil/butter: Provides important omega-3 fatty acids and supports brain development.
This fall recipe is not only nutritious, but also brings seasonal flavors right into your baby's diet.
