Grease wool overpants - this is how easy it is to get your wool overtrousers tight

How to make your wool diapers leak-proof again

Wool overpants often have the reputation of being so complicated to use and many mothers are hesitant to use them at first. I was exactly the same, but after I gave them a chance, I was very enthusiastic about them.

These instructions look very long and sound a bit complicated, but I can tell you that from the second time onwards it will take less than 5 minutes. At the beginning you have to think about and read up on how to do things, but then it's a breeze and you're done again! Especially since you only wash the wool overpants very rarely.

Wool overpants grease

In this short video I'll show you how to make wool overpants waterproof. It's that quick to mix up a wool treatment and put the diapers in to grease them.

If you have any further questions, please let us know, we will be happy to answer them!

Wool overpants are greasy in practice

But now go ahead, now you will learn how it works:

What you need:

  • Wool wax ( Popolini or HuDa) or a ready-made wool treatment (e.g. Dr. Ulrich - Wool Treatment )
  • a few drops (organic, sensitive) dishwashing liquid
  • a container with enough capacity

Popolini or Hu-Da Lanolin is pure wool wax. It is golden yellow and has a consistency like hard honey.

TIP: You can also use lanolin for sore nipples or chapped lips as it heals and softens the skin.

And this is how you do the wool treatment:

For a pair of wool overpants you need about a teaspoon of wool wax.

I recommend 1-1.5 liters of water per pair of wool overpants. The wool overpants must be well covered with water.

So, to grease the wool overpants, first heat some water (approx. 200ml) in a pan. It should be nice and hot and steaming, but not boiling. Then take a heaped teaspoon of wool wax and stir until it dissolves in the water. At the end, only the fat should be floating on the water, there should be no lumps. That's why the water has to be quite warm, otherwise the wax won't dissolve well.

After a short time, you will no longer have any wool wax on the spoon, but only yellowish fat drops floating on the water. Now add 2-3 drops of washing-up liquid (sensitive, eco, you need to be able to create a soapy solution) to your container and stir. The water will immediately begin to change color and become milky white. Now add the washing-up liquid drop by drop until there are no more fat drops floating on the surface. Then empty this cup into a larger container with lukewarm water, in which your diapers have plenty of space and can be well covered with water. Then your wool treatment is ready.

Washing instructions:

First, wash your wool overpants with a wool detergent, using the wool program or by hand. Please make sure that the temperature remains fairly constant during washing, otherwise the wool overpants may shrink.

The first few times you wash the wool overpants, it's best to wash them by hand so that you can rub them vigorously so that they mat properly. This makes the pants really nice and waterproof. When you're done, rinse the pants well with water so that no more foam comes out of the pants. Then put the pants directly into the prepared wool treatment and make sure that the diapers are nicely submerged.

TIP:

It is best to turn the pull-on diaper cover inside out so that the inside faces out. This way, the side closest to the diaper will be greased.

Now just leave the diapers until the water has cooled down. During this time, please do not stir them or anything like that, otherwise they may shrink. (It should take about 6-8 hours)

Then you take the diapers out and put them in the washing machine as they are and spin out the water at the lowest speed (about 400 rpm). Then you put them Lay them flat on the clothes rack , let them dry and you can use them again.

Or, you can put them in a towel and leave them wrapped in it for about 20 minutes. Then you can dry them.

TIP:

Please do not wring out the wool overpants or hang them up, as this can cause them to become severely deformed.

At first the pants feel quite greasy, but that goes away after the first wear. This is a great treatment for your baby because the wool wax is very nourishing for your baby's skin.

Since wool has a self-cleaning effect, it is sufficient to only do this treatment when the diapers start to smell or no longer seal properly. If they are not soiled by stool, this is after about 3-4 weeks if you use them constantly, or about every 6-8 weeks if you only use them as overpants at night.

I can only give you guidelines for the interval, please adjust your washing interval to your personal needs.

You can also turn the pull-on diaper cover inside out in the morning so that the inside is facing outwards so that it can air out better.

Ready

So that's it.
