Grease wool overpants - this is how easy it is to get your wool overtrousers tight

Wollüberhosen Fetten - so leicht bekommst du deine Wollüberhosen dicht

This is how you get your wool diapers sealed again

Wool overpants often have a reputation for being so difficult to use and many moms are hesitant to use them at first. I was exactly the same way, but after giving them a chance, I was very excited about it.

These instructions now look very long and sound a bit complicated, but I can tell you that from the second time onwards it will take less than 5 minutes. At the beginning you have to think and read up on how to do something, but then it's quick and easy and you're done again! Especially because you rarely wash the wool overpants.

Wool overpants fats

In this short video I'll show you how to get wool overpants tight. A wool treatment is quickly mixed and the diapers are put in for greasing.

If you have any questions, just ask, we'll be happy to answer them!

Wool overpants get greasy in practice

But now come on, now you can find out how it works:

What you need:

  • Wool wax ( Popolini or HuDa) or a ready-made wool treatment (e.g.: Dr. Ulrich - Wollkur)
  • a few drops of (organic, sensitive) dishwashing liquid
  • a vessel with a capacity of approx. 5 liters

Popolini or Hu-Da Lanolin is pure wool wax. It is golden yellow and has a consistency like hard honey.

TIP: You can also use wool wax for sore nipples or chapped lips as it heals and softens the skin.

And this is how you do the wool treatment:

For wool overpants you need about a teaspoonful of wool wax.

I recommend 1-1.5 liters of water per pair of wool overpants. The wool overpants must definitely be well covered with water.

To grease the wool overpants, first heat some water (approx. 200ml) in a pot. It should be nice and hot and steaming, but not boiling. Then take a heaped teaspoon of wool wax and stir until it dissolves in the water. In the end, only the fat eyes should be floating on the water; there should be no lumps. That's why the water has to be quite warm, otherwise the wax won't dissolve well.

After a short time you no longer have wool wax on the spoon, but only yellowish fat eyes floating on the water. Now drip 2-3 drops of dishwashing liquid (Sensitive, Eco, it must be able to form a soapy solution) into your container and stir. The water immediately begins to change color and becomes milky white. Now add the detergent drop by drop until there are no more grease eyes floating on the surface. You then empty this cup into a larger container with lukewarm water so that your diapers have plenty of space and can be well covered with water. Then your wool treatment is ready.

About the washing instructions:

First, wash your wool overpants briefly with a wool detergent, on the wool program or by hand. Please make sure that the temperature remains fairly constant during washing, otherwise the wool overpants may shrink.

It's best to wash the wool overpants by hand the first few times, so you can rub them vigorously so that they become matted well. This makes the pants really tight. When you are finished, please rinse the pants well with water so that no more foam comes out of the pants. Then you put the pants directly into the prepared wool treatment and make sure that the diapers are nicely submerged in water.

TIP:

It's best to turn slipcovers inside out so that the inside is facing out. This means that the side of the diaper in particular is greased.

Now just leave the diapers there until the water cools down. Please do not stir or anything similar during this time, otherwise they may shrink. (approx. 6-8 hours should pass)

Then you take the diapers out and put them in the washing machine as they are and spin out the water at the lowest speed (approx. 400 rpm). Then you put them lay it flat on the drying rack , let it dry and then use it again.

Or, you put them in a towel and leave them wrapped in it for about 20 minutes. Then you dry them.

TIP:

Please do not wring out the wool overpants or hang them up as this can cause them to deform significantly.

At first the pants feel quite greasy, but that goes away after the first wear. This is a great treatment for your baby because the wool wax is very caring for your baby's skin.

Since wool has a self-cleaning effect, it is enough if you only do this treatment when the diapers start to smell or no longer seal well. If they are not soiled by stool, this is after approx. 3 - 4 weeks if you use them constantly. If you only use them as overpants for the night, this is approx. every 6 - 8 weeks.

I can only give you guidelines for the interval, please adapt your washing interval to your personal needs.

You can also turn the slipcovers over in the morning so that the inside faces out, so they can air out better.
